After a to short visit with Tom & Nancy in Murrells Inlet, SC which included golf, fantastic restaurants, and great people we needed to return to our happy home in New Jersey. I’m always trying to extend road trips with new or favorite sites so I suggested that we stop and spend time at the National Wildlife Refuge on Assateague Island, Chincoteague, VA. The sky was grey to boring blue with very few clouds but the Refuge was electrifying with the promise of Waterfowl and Wild Ponies. All the way from New Jersey we anticipated an abundance of Wildlife after all that was the purpose of this Road Trip. The “hunt” the thrill of finding game. A deep human psychological emotion that drives us. Our choice of weapons were the NIKON Camera with zoom lenses.
We arrived late afternoon and immediately entered the Refuge. Because it was after 3pm we were allowed to drive on the three mile wildlife loop normally closed to automobiles. On the last mile of the loop we saw two lonely Ponies grazing in the distant wetlands. They were right on the edge of my lens capability but a team of Wild Ponies couldn’t stop me from shooting.
